Description
This indicator measures the percentage of LTC residents who have at least one prescription for an antipsychotic medication dispensed in the reporting quarter who did not have an antipsychotic medication dispensed in the preceding 12 months.

(Total number of residents aged 66 and older who have at least one prescription for an antipsychotic medication dispensed in the quarter with no antipsychotic medication dispensed in the previous 12 months / Total number of residents aged 66 and older) X 100

(i.e. Numerator/Denominator *100 )

Numerator including inclusion/exclusion
The number of residents with at least one prescription for an antipsychotic without a prescription for antipsychotics in the previous 12 months. No additional exclusions.
Denominator including inclusion/exclusion

The total number of residents in OHIP/ODB cohort for the relevant fiscal quarter who are 66 years and older and not in palliative care.

Exclusions:

  • Age 65 or less on index date
  • Residents with palliative care in past six months
  • Residents in a physician patient group of <= 5 within the LTC home (apply this exclusion ONLY when stratifying rates by physician)

The indicator also captures antipsychotic medications dispensed that are prescribed on an as-needed basis (PRN). This indicator is strictly for measuring quality improvement efforts. It is not to measure accountability or performance.
