Description
This indicator measures the number of hospital patients who were physically restrained at least once in the 3 days prior to a full admission assessment, divided by all patients with a full admission assessment in the reporting period.

The percentage is calculated as: the numerator divided by the denominator, multiplied by 100.
Numerator including inclusion/exclusion

Number of patients who were physically restrained in the 3 days prior to a full admission assessment in the reporting period.

Inclusions:

The number of full admission assessments with physical restraint use (any of M1a ≥ 1 or M1b ≥ 1 or M1c ≥ 1) coded on the RAI-MH

  • M1a: The number of full admission assessments for the 12 month period (inclusive) with M1a "Mechanical Restraint" use coded within the last 3 days
  • M1b: The number of full admission assessments for the 12 months period with M1b "Chair Prevents Rising" use coded within the last 3 days
  • M1c: The number of full admission assessments for the twelve months period with M1c "Physical/Manual Restraint by Staff" coded within the last 3 days

Denominator including inclusion/exclusion

The number of patients with a full admission assessment in the reporting period (i.e. total number of full admission assessments).
